“I wanted to contrast everything: the bright colors of the tiger swallowtail butterflies, sunflowers and mountain bluebird against the bison’s black and white; the smoother bird versus the bison’s thick fur; the smallness of the bird and butterflies against the bison’s mass. Actually, the bison is fragile in its own way; it once was on the endangered species list.”
