This necklace is comprised of 10 Black Coral beads with Silver inlay and Turkana beads, measures approximately 18″ in length,
Black Coral has been place on the endangered species list so it is no longer harvested. These beads are from the 17th century. Each bead has been drilled by hand and pour molten silver into them to create a pattern. Black Coral has been used for centuries in many religious cultures as prayer beads.
Turkana Beads are from North and West Africa “The Cradle of Mankind”, denoted social status of the wearer. In times of need, the beads were exchanged for food, cattle and clothing.
