Black Coral has been place on the endangered species list so it is no longer harvested. These beads are from the 17th century. Each bead has been drilled by hand and pour molten silver into them to create a pattern. Black Coral has been used for centuries in many religious cultures as prayer beads.
Turkana Beads are from North and West Africa “The Cradle of Mankind”, denoted social status of the wearer. In times of need, the beads were exchanged for food, cattle and clothing.
Amber: A fossilized resin, is among the oldest substance used for adornments. In Africa, it was a symbol of family wealth and status. Amber has been surrounded by mystery for thousands of years and is believed to have magical and medicinal properties. It is said that Amber regulates the body temperature, is good for teething and cures many other ailments. Amber varies in color from yellow/orange to red/black.
